🐝 Founder story — how Intelligent Hives was born
It all started in 2015. Sebastian Górecki, then a student of Electronics and Telecommunications at Lodz University of Technology, left a few jars of family honey in his brother’s garage as a surprise. A few days later, an emotional call came in: “Seriously? You left those jars loose in the garage—everything spilled!”
Embarrassed, Sebastian realized how much work goes into a single jar of honey. He learned that one bee produces only 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime. That moment became a turning point — a mix of guilt and curiosity that sparked the idea: could technology help people understand bees better?
Although he had never been a beekeeper, he enrolled in the vocational school in Sulejow to learn beekeeping from scratch. There, the idea of building a device that would let hives “speak” through data was born. Together with friends, he built the first prototype — simple, but full of passion. In 2019 the project became Intelligent Hives Sp. z o.o.
Despite hardships — COVID-19, component shortages, and funding gaps — the team persevered, supported by beekeepers who believed in the mission. Their flagship BeeHUB system monitors temperature, weight, humidity, and sound in hives, turning data into a new language between people and bees.
“That spilled honey became the sweetest mistake of my life.” — says Sebastian.
Thank you to all the beekeepers, engineers, and friends who helped build Intelligent Hives. We can add archival photos: early device versions, apiary tests, the team in the workshop.
